Rishi Sunak to be next UK Prime Minister
Rishi Sunak has been announced as the new Conservative Party leader and therefore the new UK Prime Minister.
Mr Sunak was the only valid candidate after Penny Mordaunt pulled out of the race at the last minute.
Sir Graham Brady, chair of the 1922 committee, said: “As returning officer in the leadership election I can confirm we have received one valid nomination.
“Rishi Sunak is therefore elected as the leader of the Conservative Party”
Rishi Sunak will address the committee at 2:30pm today (24 October).
There were three front runners in the last week however before Penny Mordaunt, Boris Johnson also pulled out the race saying it “wouldn’t be right” despite reaching the threshold of nominations.
