Eddie Izzard launches campaign to run for Sheffield Central MP
Comedian, Eddie Izzard, has launched a campaign today to run as the Labour candidate for Sheffield Central.
The announcement comes after Paul Blomfield, the current MP for Sheffield Central announced that he would be standing down at the next general election.
Eddie Izzard came to Sheffield in 1980, where she began an accounting degree at the University of Sheffield however she soon dropped out to pursue her comedy career.
She said: “When I’m faced with a challenge, I work my hardest to deliver. But this next challenge is the most important one of my life.
“Sheffield has a proud history, showing grit and determination in overcoming adversities and it was the wit and generosity of the people of this city that made me feel welcome when I first arrived in 1980.
She added that she wanted to build on the tireless work of Paul Blomfield and support the city that supported her and get Keir Starmer into Downing Street.
No selection process has started in the Labour party to find the successor to Paul Blomfield, who has sat in parliament since 2010.
